Fugaku Taiko Visits The Triangle
Fugaku Taiko a traditional Japanese drumming ensemble from the foothills of Mt. Fuji, will be performing at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts Fred Fletcher Opera Hall on Monday, Jan. 21, from 3-4:30 p.m.
This performance is especially for Special Olympics Athletes, families and friends as well as employees of the City of Raleigh as the sponsors of Special Olympics Wake County and this performance.
The concert is free and seating is general admission so please arrive early!
This concert will also feature a performance by Triangle Taiko with the assistance of several of our Special Olympics Wake County athletes!!!
Fugaku Taiko, the first group from the Nippon Taiko Foundation to tour the Southeastern United States, was founded in 1977 and presents more than 100 performances a year in Japan and around the world. They were also the first Taiko group to discover the benefits of Taiko therapy for individuals with intellectual disabilities, and their touring ensemble now features several such members.

Triangle Taiko was founded in 2002 from the Nippon Club of the Triangle. They put on many local performances a year and for the past 2 years they have being doing workshops for local Special Olympics athletes and their “Special Performance Group” including our athletes has done performances as well. “We celebrate diversity, and welcome members who wish to do so as well. Our members come from many walks of life and are of various ages. Our motto is “sharing the spirit of Taiko with the world.”
